Presentation tools: Appropriations and Affordance make them essential

Different Presentation Tools used widely

Usage of digital tools as a medium of teaching and learning has become the preferred way lately. I believe that digitalization of educational contents has made it more accessible than ever. I might mostly fill-up the required focuses of learning like facilitating learning, collaboration and accessibility.   Yet to make it more productive, I think more critical approach should be implemented.

For example, Google Classroom is one of the most widely used online teaching-learning platforms for educators. It mostly fulfills all the essential features that online –learning demands. I was introduced to this platform during Covid-19 time. As an educator we had to test and to use different platforms to teach. Google classroom was found most convenient to us (educators and students who were able to use it in Bangladesh). According to me the best part was that the class can be recorded on online platforms which help the slow learners enormously. It is not possible for real classroom environment. The students who are not vocal enough can effectively participate through chatting or sharing an image or emoticons. Besides classroom tasks, student are able to share their thoughts and ideas individually or collaborately  through Google slides. They can share and edit them any time from any computer. Where power point presentation tools are reigning for years, Google slides are tremendous addition to the presentation medium. Today we have so many multi-featured presentation tools available.  However, only which have appropriations and affordance, are mostly used and accepted by the specific users. I believe , proper training and user guidance can make these tools most effective than ever.   These presentation tools are making learning and sharing more interesting and easier.

-Thank you.

  1. Hi Ummey,

I agree, presentation programs or tools make learning and sharing more interesting and enjoyable. I am in the adult education/human resource development program and just like this class we are to do “weekly presentations of the content”. I look forward to the Ed Tech presentations because I know our classmates are bringing out all the stops to show their tech expertise. In my other class I can expect the “presentations” to be a PDF document or a basic PowerPoint with notes. I always remind myself when I am planning my lessons “would I enjoy doing this, and would this capture my attention for the entirety of the presentation”. I’m thankful for this class because I feel like I am walking away with a lot of tools to make my lessons better than ever!

  2. Hii ummey
Great post ummey.i agree with you digital tools makes teaching learning more effective and it helps to develop interest of the students. Moreover in today world there are many apps available for making presentation such as google slides, ppt and Canva . We can use these audio visual aid in classroom that helps the students to retain knowledge for longer period of time.I think that schools and policy makers should provide proper training to teachers so that they can use these tools in classroom.
